Full Name:
Nuada Aisling to his family and closest friends; everyone else knows him as Aoife (ee-fah) Aisling
Age:
83- appears to be in his/her late twenties
Race:
Fae
Occupation:
Spymaster (as Nuada) and records-keeper (as Aoife)
Physical Description:
Aoife Aisling is the records-keeper of the council, but is known more for her beauty than her bookkeeping skills. She is a tall woman at 5’11”, pale and willowy, with enormous blue-violet eyes. Her skin is bright and her cheeks full, suggesting she comes from a wealthy background. She has full lips, and her face is strongly contoured. Her long, wavy hair is generally some shade of blonde, ranging from platinum to strawberry. Her features are further emphasized by makeup in pink and nude shades, and her nails and eyebrows are meticulously groomed. She has a small chest and narrow hips, and her slender frame does carry musculature. However, Aoife tends to draw most attention to her face, one that has drawn suitors of varying races.
However, the woman known as Aoife is the result of a mixture of makeup, raw chicken, and fae glamour. Aoife Aisling is actually Nuada Aisling, the son of a long and respected line of fae, some of which have served on the Council. Nuada has always had a penchant for dressing as a woman on certain days, depending on how he feels that particular day. This trait is actually very useful for his real position as Council spymaster. The ethereal beauty known by most of Verden is actually an accomplished sniper and saboteur. Nuada is considerably lazier with his appearance when presenting as male. His general facial features and eyes remain the same, but he has cropped charcoal-coloured hair with bangs hanging over his forehead. He is slim and would be very attractive if he put a bit more effort into his appearance- most people who see Nuada are usually treated to an unshaven face and unwashed hair.
Personality:
As Aoife, Nuada tries to tie down the more extreme and hotheaded aspects of his personality. Most people see Aoife as a well-educated and intelligent young woman, although she does appear to have, as some people claim, a stick up her ass. In reality, Nuada has nothing but disdain for the bourgeoisie he was born and raised into. Aoife has gotten into trouble numerous times for speaking over her betters, particularly in cases where criminals have escaped due to council red tape and clear racism towards the ‘lesser’ races. On several occasions, she has gotten into legal trouble while attempting to seek justice herself. That is why she has been ‘confined’ to records despite being of superior breeding. Despite coming from a wealthy background, Nuada took the silver spoon out of his mouth at a young age and is truly happy serving the council as a spymaster.
When he isn’t all dressed up, attending royal balls and yelling at council members, he is an extremely accomplished marksman. Using his natural fae abilities to cast glamour as well as combat talent, Nuada prides himself on being one of the deadliest snipers in Verden. Nuada is firmly focussed on justice, but he is able to occasionally relax and joke around- in general he responds well to flirting and sarcasm in equal measure, and he does like to talk. However, he will rarely talk about himself, and especially when he is in emotional pain will present a tough exterior and often isolate himself from others.
History:
Nuada was born to the Aisling clan, an ancient and respected family dating back centuries. His mother, Epona, was a noblewoman of exquisite and expensive tastes. Epona had struggled with miscarriages throughout her life. When Nuada was born, she was told that another birth would likely kill her. Epona had desperately wanted a daughter. She loved Nuada nonetheless, but constantly complained to him about how she wanted a girl. She showed him her immaculate wardrobe and constantly did him up in makeup and beautiful clothing. Loghain, his father, was furious to see his son and heir being treated like a doll, and often had furious arguments with Epona. However, Nuada seemed to be content in balancing manlier activities like sword fighting and hunting with dressing up, so Loghain eventually rescinded his anger.
However, Loghain was terrified of becoming the laughingstock of all of Verden. Nuada understood that his cross dressing had to be kept private so no one outside the family became aware of it, and so presented himself as Aoife, the younger sister of Nuada. Aoife proved herself to be quite the hit with Verden’s high society thanks to her beauty. However, due to her true sex, she was not allowed to marry. Not being able to have a family and truly be himself fazed Nuada. He began to tire of the balls, the silver spoons, and the gossip. He threw himself into books, and longed to learn of the outside world. He took comfort in sharpshooting and riding with his father, but longed to be part of something better.
This changed when Krait, a country to the south, suddenly invaded Verden. Centuries-long racial hatred led to them targeting and butchering fae in particular. Nuada signed himself up for the war. He truly came into his own in battle. He became a ghost, hunting for Krait in the rain to muffle their screams, using mannequins as decoys, and setting off bombs to distract his prey. After years of service, Nuada was eventually injured and sent home. By that time, he had killed over three hundred people. The war with Krait ended, and Nuada found himself purposeless once again. He ended up becoming a knight in service to the Council, but ended up getting himself in trouble for multiple reasons. He assisted peasant rebellions and helped them hide, and ended up getting himself thrown in jail a few times.
However, Nuada’s intelligence got him noticed by the Council. He would install pianos in rebels’ bases so they would appear as music shops. He stole sensitive papers from the government, put them in a bag, and put the bag in a storefront with a price tag that was outrageously high. The bag sat there in plain sight for weeks, even after the store was raided numerous times by the guard. After his fourth imprisonment, the Council approached Nuada and offered him a position in their cabinet. Although Nuada Aisling had dishonoured himself and his family with his vigilante justice, Aoife Aisling was still a respected member of society. Nuada was allowed to rejoin the bourgeoisie in this way. Aoife became the records-keeper, earning her place with the Council bookkeeping, while Nuada continues to engineer peace.
