Full Name:
Athanaël Lescaut
Age:
150
Race:
Dracolisk
Occupation:
Council Agent
Physical Description:
Part of the reason Athanaël is such a good agent is that his reptilian features are less exaggerated than many of his kin. From a distance it can be difficult to pick out his exact species. His hair- which is actually a multitude of soft scales- is almost black. His skin is deep tan with warm undertones, and dotted with black scales throughout his entire body. His fingers end in thick black claws instead of nails, and his eyes are almost black with vertical slits for pupils. He stands at about six feet even, and has a muscular frame. His face is well-proportioned with a hooked nose, full lips, high cheekbones and a strong jaw. His eyes are wide and almond-shaped. His ears are pierced three times on both sides with gold earrings, and he has a multitude of black and grey tattoos that appear like complicated geometry going down his arms and legs. However, Athanaël’s most notable aspect is his voice- it is a remarkably deep baritone.
Personality:
Athanaël is well-known in social circles for his somewhat unique personality. He is exceptionally dry and serious in any given situation, often resorting to sarcasm. He also has an incredibly foul mouth, with most of his remarks punctuated by profanity. His somewhat absurd sense of humour is either met with laughter or complete and utter offense. Confusion is also another reaction he is used to- even in the direst of situations, even when injured, Athanaël will speak in his pleasant baritone without ever showing a single hint of emotion. Very few people have seen him smile; even fewer have heard his laugh. Generally, in order to get any sort of real emotion or thoughtfulness out of him, Athanaël has to be very drunk. He is an exceptionally depressed drunk. Thanks to his past, Athanaël is holding onto a deep sense of guilt. Although he seems to have no cares in the world, a part of him believes he deserves to die.
History:
Athanaël was orphaned shortly after his birth. His parents were both scientists that accidentally blew themselves up when he was four, levelling their entire house. Without relatives or enough wealth to send him to another household, the kingdom put him into the convent. Athanaël was supposedly meant to spend the rest of his life as a monk. He became educated but was often hungry. He taught himself how to shoot a bow and arrow in order to catch small game to feed himself and the other children. At the age of fifteen, when he was meant to take his vows, Athanaël was entrusted with the keys to the cloister. He unlocked the outer doors before returning the keys, and then escaped during the night.
Athanaël ended up drifting through towns for several years before finding a position as a guardsman. Unfortunately, he picked a terrible time to join the rank and file- this was on the eve of a massive war with the eastern continent, and Athanaël was quickly conscripted. War changed Athanaël quickly. The Candlelight War was largely fought in urban settings, leading to some truly horrific events. One event in particular changed Athanaël forever. Athanaël and a young girl were hiding from ghouls in an abandoned house. Both were injured, and the little girl wouldn’t stop crying. Her wails kept drawing the ghouls closer and closer. Athanaël, in his desperation to keep her quiet, squeezed her around her throat.
The cries stopped, and the ghouls shuffled on. It was only then that Athanaël realized that he had crushed the girl’s windpipe, killing her. Friendly soldiers found Athanaël later that morning in complete shock. He was sent home due to his injuries, and hailed as a war hero. Shame and horror kept him quiet about what had happened. Athanaël was approached by the Council once the war was over. They had heard of his deeds, including one instance where he had slit the throats of over one hundred soldiers. They offered him to become one of their rare agents. Athanaël accepted, desperate to avoid another war. He settled into the position quite comfortably and became a renowned agent. He is hell-bent on finding a way to atone for his sin, but has yet to find one.
