Verden is a young continent. It rose from the ocean eight hundred years ago. This island had an unheard of element known as ophelium. Although it was prized for its beauty at first, this element’s properties became apparent- although deadly, it could give people magical powers. Races from all across the ocean made their claim on Verden, and it was fought over by a multitude of countries. However, Verden began to become its own nation. Centaurs, fae, elves, dracolisks, and humans formed a kingdom that the other, more uniform countries could not fight against. Two hundred years after its formation, Verden became an official kingdom. Its five races each selected representatives to rule in a Council, with one council member serving as king or queen. Verden is undoubtedly the powerhouse of international politics, mainly because it is the only source of ophelium. The country has stopped or begun wars at its whim, and halted many invasions. The five most civilized races enjoy being first class citizens, while others are not as highly valued.

- The current king, Matthias Panagiotis, is human. The previous queen was an elf, one who was overthrown in a coup when she was revealed to be scheming against her own nation.
- Forty years ago, the elven kingdom of Kahje invaded Verden from the south. Many were tortured and killed before the elves were driven back.
- The previous fae councillor, Ishan, was found murdered one year ago. No killer was ever caught.
