my name is
Mordred Jelen
Mordred Jelen
My name is Mordred Jelen, the name I have known all of my Five Hundred and Thirty Five Years. Originally, I was a one of the Guard of the Royal Castle, protecting the king of my time. I was also originally a human, born in a farming village not far from the royal city. After being cursed by an unknown individual, my journal says I fought for years to find a cure to break the curse, but I was unable to and thus, over time, became a Gargoyle. I still protect the castle, living on the ledge of one of the tallest towers and I use my abilities to serve the King of Verden. The King I served is the ancestor of our current King, so it makes my soul proud to be back with the family I started with. My Journal says that he was an honest man, a strong man, and loving man. I hope that Matthias is the same honest, strong and loving man.
I have tough skin, dark like stone and it also feels of stone. I have Black hair, which is something I had in my human form. I was born with Green eyes, which last time I check, were still green like what I was born with. My body is stocky, large, and muscled possible due to my Gargoyle condition. I have large wings which have grown over the last five hundred years and they support my bulky body. I stand at a height of 6'5" and it does not appear that I will get any taller. My body is not much human like, my body has grown to look different since I was human and I feel it is only fitting that I have changed. I feel more animal than human, but I try to keep my civilized mind. I wear clothing, unlike others of my species, but it is stuff that is loose fitting. I wear a simple, brown kilt that is held by a belt. I also wear a brown tunic to be as close to civilized as possible, but it is also cheap and easy to replace after fighting. My hands are strong, my nails pointed and sharp; same with my feet.
Over the years I have forgotten much of my life, though I reflect on it as much as I can. When I first became a creature of the night, another gargoyle told me that I would lose memory over time, so I began keeping journals to remember my life as a human and throughout my new life. So, I will tell you of my life as I have written in my many journals to know whom I am as a life.
I was born in a small village near the capital of Verden. My father's name was Bricius, an immigrant from the human kingdom. He was a blacksmith, making anything from horseshoes to weapons for the local warriors. My mother's name was Godiva, a herbalist and gardener, who was known for growing the best produce and making medicine from her herbs. I was the second born child of five children. My eldest sister became a herbalist like my mother, she died at the old age of eighty seven with three children of her own. I had a brother after I was born, he became a blacksmith like my father, but was killed during an accident at the age of thirty three, he had no children or wife. My next sibling was a sister and she became a mother and wife, died at ninety two, with five children and ten grandchildren. My last sibling was a brother and he became a knight, died at the age of fifty years with a wife and two children.
I had a large family... I am sure I still have a large family, but I do not keep in touch with any of them. I went into the military and was fortunate enough to meet a man known as Panagiotis, whom I found out later was the King of Verden. I became a close friend to the man and even asked him to stand by me when I married the love of my life, Atiya. She is my one memory of my old life that I work to keep my memory of. She brings a smile to my face and I keep and old painting of her near where I rest. We had two children, Drust and Caiside, both went into the military and became fine soldiers. I was proud of my boys, they became husband's and father's. I do not know if they spoke of me after my transformation, but I know I saw them some after I became a beast of the night.
So, I lived a good, human life until I was forced to remove a group of women from a building. I do not remember it personally, but I wrote about chanting and after that, my journal tells of me becoming sick and weak over the course of many years until I began to change into the beast I am now. I was lucky that I had Panagiotis and my wife. Both still treated me like me and I worked to help the Empire. I became a protector of the castle, given my own tower to call my home after my wife died. I stayed there after many rulers, some did not even know I lived there, for the Tower was shut off and no one could get to it without flying or climbing, but I always helped the Empire.
When I found out that the descendant of Panagiotis was becoming the King, I made sure to be in the castle during his first night and to introduce myself. He treated me fairly and introduced me to his lovely wife. I am happy to serve the man and this empire.
